About My Work

My work is often influenced by the desire to capture a beautiful moment in time. Whenever I stroll on the beach or walk through the woods, I try to find and absorb graceful bits of life. In doing so, I gather fragments of nature which ultimately become integral parts of my monotypes, the medium of my choice.

I prefer to make monotypes by hand, rarely touching the press. I enjoy the fragility of the paper, and as a contrast, the dense substance of inks. I love the sensation of mixing heavy inks. It feels as though the paper, the found fragments, and the inks magically blend.

I occasionally work in black-and-white, however I prefer to use bright dazzling colors that I believe reflect the joyous aspects of life. The fragments of nature which I incorporate in my work as stencils, often form beautiful delicate lines, seemingly on their own. I enjoy seeing these lines and working with them. While I try to capture a real moment, my finished pieces often look fantastical, and perhaps create a sense of a different place in a different world.
